Our Red Bayberries

June 5, 2018

Red Bayberries are a round fruit with a soft, pebbly, waxy, exterior. The deep red colour seen on the outside of the berry matches the colour of its pulp. There is a small pip inside the middle, just like a cherry, so be aware when biting into them! When bitten into, the taste of the Red Bayberry is light, sweet and tangy.

The Red Bayberry also referred to as the ‘Yumberry’ is a subtropical fruit native to Asian countries such as China. Our Red Bayberries are grown and packed in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.

If you are looking for a low calorie treat to satisfy your sweet tooth, Bayberries are a very good option. One Bayberry contains only 6 calories. Not only are they extremely low in calories but they are rich in nutrients including antioxidant vitamins A, C and E. Antioxidants are substances that protect healthy cells from damaging free radicals, which can help and prevent heart disease and certain types of cancer. The antioxidants in the yumberry may also help prevent inflammation which is linked to the buildup of plaque along your artery walls and offer additional cardiovascular protection.

Bayberries are also very beneficial in increasing circulation. The most essential usage of Bayberries is for the treatment of sinus problems. It can help in relieving some of the symptoms associated with sinus such as cold, flu, cough and overactive mucous membrane. Traditionally, the bayberry bark root is dried and used as a nasal astringent to shrink and contract the tissues in the sinus cavity and thereby, to dry the flow. This treatment has also been seen to be used as well to treat headaches.

Is there any reason not to be eating these delicious little berries?! You can find our Bayberries in your local Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and Costco!
