Y.V.Fresh Exposed: Erika Raspberries

July 11, 2017

As we continue our Y.V.Fresh exposed series, we decided to delve into the berry we like to call ‘nature's candy’ because of its intensely sweet and rich flavour That is, the Erika Raspberry.

What: Are Erika Raspberries?
Erika Raspberries are sweeter and softer than traditional raspberries. They carry a deeper colour, making them occasionally closer to a burgundy hue. Due to the the decadent flavour of the Erika raspberry, they are considered a premium berry.

Where: Are Erika Raspberries Grown?
We grow our Erikas all across the east coast of Australia. This includes Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland.

How: Are they Grown?
Erika Raspberry bushes are planted 50 cm apart and two metres between rows when they are young. Heat, sunlight, water and healthy nutrition are just some of nature's ingredients we use to let them blossom. Erika Raspberry plants grow up to around two metres tall and produces fruit in spring and autumn, making them very productive and available to be enjoyed over a long period of time.

When: Are they ready to be eaten?
Picking begins in November, once they become a deep red colour and have developed a great flavour.

Why: are they good for you?
Like most berries, Erika Raspberries are full of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals that are good for assisting in heart health, diabetes management and providing brainpower.

We hope you enjoyed reading about the Erika Raspberry! Until next time, enjoy your berries!
