The Many Ways to Eat Berries

It is fair to say that by now most of us know that berries are good for us. They are a great source of vitamins, antioxidants and fibre that our bodies need in order to continue working properly. Therefore we need to make the most of our delicious fruit and try our best to consume it on a regular basis.

Here at Y.V.Fresh we know that people like options. That’s why we have put together a list of the different ways you can consume berries.

So here goes…

1. Fresh!

Pretty obvious right? In saying that though, eating fresh berries is not only refreshing but it is also the best way for your body to absorb all the nutrients the fruit has to offer as they have not been cooked away.

2. Frozen

For a sweet treat on a hot day, pack a couple handfuls of berries into a zip lock bag, refrigerate for 3-4 hours and enjoy! To jazz things up, you could also dip the berries in yogurt, set them out on a tray and viola! You have frozen berry-yogurt bites.

3. Cooked in food

You know where we’re going with this one.. nothing better than fresh blueberry or raspberry muffins to kick a sweet tooth craving away right? On a more savoury note, throw a few berries on top of your homemade pizza, bake in the oven and you will never go back to eating regular pizza again.

4. Jam

A great way to preserve berries once the season is over is to make them into jam and enjoy for months to come. Check our Facebook page for our favourite homemade jam recipe.

5. Blended

A quick and easy way of getting the flavour and nutrients of berries when you don’t have much time to snack on anything is to blend them. Whether that’s in a smoothie or even to freeze to have as an icy-pole later, the possibilities are endless!

6. Dried

Although they do not carry as many nutrients when dried as they do fresh; berries that have been dried out are great to eat by the handful or even decorate cakes. There are articles that teach how you can dry your own fresh berries. This will save you consuming all the bad preservatives used in the store bought ones.
